Vision 2020 – How Pupils See the Future of Education

15 February 2008

Where will pupils learn in 2020? How will computers and the lessons of the future look like? How will pupils for whom the computer is a natural extension of their mind think?

Bucharest, 15th February 2008 – The 6th edition of the National Competition for Educational Software Cupa SIVECO 2008 was officially launched. The contest is dedicated to innovative and talented pupils who have a special interest in developing educational IT projects and for teachers with a passion for modernizing the teaching resources.

Organized by SIVECO Romania under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth and in partnership with PC Magazine and TVR, the CUPA SIVECO Competition aims at stimulating, rewarding as well as emphasizing the creative potential of the young pupils from the pre-universitary educational system.

The competition’s theme “Vision of 2020” is extremely rewarding, and encourages the young educational software developers to imagine the near future. The organizers encourage pupils to brake the traditional barriers and came with original and innovative themes, by which the “unimagined” will be transformed into an idea and then in a product by the power of anticipation and the creativity of the contestants.

It is obvious that the changes will accelerate and the educational software will have to keep up with the technology and the evolution of the human brain. That is why the Cupa SIVECO competition demands from the “educational software’s parents” meaning the young competitors, to imagine the future of a domain that they defined but they already “lost” in the hard to predict acceleration of the next years” declared Radu Jugureanu, AeL eContent Manager with SIVECO Romania.

As in previous editions, Cupa SIVECO welcomes mixed teams of maximum 3 pupils from the 5th to the 12th grade, a coordinator that leads the project from the scientifically point of view and a technical guide who coordinates the technologies used.

Today’s pupils took part actively in transforming the IT labs in classrooms, redefining IT as a support for teaching and the computer as a support for training. We are determine to involve the pupils more and more in developing their own knowledge as well as in the process of creating educational resources meant for future generations,” declared Radu Jugureanu.

Starting with 11th of February 2008 the online competition begins. In this stage of the competition contestants can send at cupa.siveco@siveco.ro modules of their work and can benefit from the scientifical, didactical and pedagogical support of the jury. In the final stage there will qualify a minimum of 15 teams each with one paper. The last version of the paper sent until 25th of May 2008, will be evaluated. The qualified teams will meet for the final stage in June 2008.

As each year, the winning team will have the chance to participate in a major educational software fair.
